Menorah vs. Chanukiah

Happy third night of Chanukah! Central to the holiday is the Chanukah Menorah known as a Chanukiah (Cha-nu-key-ah). A Chanukiah has eight candles holders for the eight nights of the holiday and an additional candle holder for the Shamash - or helper candle. A regular Menorah (pictured here) only has seven candle holders. When the Jews rededicated the Temple, they lit the gold Menorah that stood in the Temple.
